Canopy Walk as a Safari Activity in Nyungwe Forest National Park Rwanda

In October 2010, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) launched canopy walk tourism in Nyungwe National Park as part of a strategy to diversify tourism attractions. Canopy tourism is also aimed at encouraging tourists to spend a longer time in Rwanda. The Canopy Walk is the only attraction of its kind in East Africa. This is the first ever hanging platform that allows tourists to view different animal species in Nyungwe Forest. The dizzying platform is above a steep and deep valley stretching across the massive forest.
The forest has a network of walking and hiking trails, as well as a number of camping. East Africa’s only canopy walk can be found in Nyungwe: Located 50 meters above the ground, and 200 meters long, the canopy walk gives you an exhilarating tree-to-eye view of Nyungwe Forest. A great activity for children and adults alike. There is a short guided hike to the canopy walk, which begin at Nyungwe National Park headquarters- the Uwinka tourist reception center and are USD $60 per person. The minimum age is 6 years old and an adult must accompany children. The canopy walk is available at all times during the year. Rain is very common in Nyungwe Forest, it is suggested that clients bring a raincoat with them. Raincoats and boots can also be rented at the headquarters. Walking sticks are provided free of charge. Hiking shoes and water are recommended.
