For most tourists travelling to Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park offers the main attraction – an opportunity of mountain Gorilla Tracking.
This game park is a habitat to 12 habituated Mountain Gorilla families that can be visited for a hefty price of up to $1,500 per person as compared to the other only two mountain Gorilla Safari tour destinations of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Those ready and able to fork out the cash for the Gorilla Permit are rewarded with an opportunity of incredible experience of getting up close and personal with the most majestic primates in the world, the critically endangered mountain Gorillas.
Volcanoes National Park does not only give visitors a chance to trek the critically endangered mountain Gorillas but also offers an opportunity to see Golden Monkeys, a playful troop often found by hundreds.
Though there is a charge for an additional permit ($100/per person) that is required for Golden Monkey tracking, but unlike the permit for mountain Gorillas, this one is notably more affordable. And one can agree that this activity is also just as adventurous and entertaining an gorilla tracking.
Where To Stay
There a number of places to chose from take for example Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel on the road going to Kinigi that is strategically located just a few kilometers outside of the park and boasts amazing views of the volcanoes from its premises.
The hotel is locally operated, and is deep-rooted in the community, and feels like a relaxing home – making it a perfect low impact accommodation option for tourists visiting Volcanoes National Park.
The accommodation facility is on a full board basis and the hotel can also gladly help you organize Rwanda Gorilla Tracking safaris and other activities in the park.
