6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick-up From The Airport And do a Kigali City Tour

Upon your arrival at Kigali airport in Rwanda, our professional driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to Kigali for a city tour.

Your safari guide will take you around various sites in Rwanda’s capital city such as the Kigali Convention Center, National Museum, Presidential Palace, and the Kigali genocide memorial center among others.

Retreat from the Kigali city tour, check in your accommodation, dine, and spend the night there.

Day 2: Transfer Nyungwe Forest National Park

After your morning breakfast at the lodge or hotel, you will be picked up by your driver guide, transfer you to Nyungwe Forest National Park, driving for about 6-7 hours to the southwestern part of the country via the rolling hills across Rwanda. You will have lunch en route, arriving at the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Do a Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Nyungwe Forest And Canopy Walk in The Afternoon.

Chimpanzee trekking safaris in Rwanda start early in the morning at 8 am with a briefing from the ranger guides at the park headquarters.

After your early morning breakfast at the lodge, your driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for your briefing about the do’s and don’ts of trekking.

Under the guidance of a ranger guide, you will hike Nyungwe Forest a natural habitat for a huge population of chimps.

Chimpanzees are great apes that are closely related to humans. Nyungwe Forest hosts these intelligent primates who are an endangered species.

You will watch them play, laugh, and make funny sounds in their natural habitat. During your chimpanzee trek, you will also encounter other animals such as elephants, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and countless bird species.

The forest harbors more than 275 endemic and migratory bird species recorded. Retire from trekking, have lunch and do your canopy walk in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, enjoy the Canopy walk, the only one of its kind in East Africa. Situated 50 meters above the ground, and 200 meters long, the canopy walk gives you a good eye view of Nyungwe Forest, Lake Kivu, and even the Democratic Republic of Congo in the distance.

This is a great activity for you expect to have a good time while here. The canopy walk starts at Nyungwe National Park headquarters and lasts about 2 hours giving you breathtaking views across the misty forest and the sightings of the various wildlife that live in the canopy.

Day 4: Leave Nyungwe Forest National Park And Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You will have your morning breakfast at your lodge, at around 9 am, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi via Gisenyi in Ruhengeri.

This journey takes about 5-6 hours. You will pass via tea plantations with a spectacular view of the neighboring communities and other beautiful scenery arriving in the park in the evening. Check in your accommodation, have dinner, and rest.

Day 5: Do a Gorilla Trekking Safari in Volcanoes National Park

You will be required to take your breakfast very early in the morning since you are required to be at the park headquarters early in the morning for a briefing that starts at 8 am.

At around 7 am, you will be picked up by your safari guide together with your packed lunch to the park headquarters for your briefing at 8 am from the park rangers about the do’s and don’ts of gorilla trekking.

and transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing about a gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda.

You will then hike into the forest with the park rangers and an armed guide to search for the gorillas in their natural habitat.

After spotting the gorillas, you will spend an hour with them where you will watch them feeding, eating, playing, building their nests, and many more.

This activity roughly takes about 2-8 hours depending on where the gorillas are. In the evening after the trek, you may go for cultural encounters and interact with the local people. (optional). Transfer back to the lodge, freshen up, dine, and relax.

Day 6: Depart The Gorilla Land And Transfer Back to Kigali

Early in the morning after breakfast at the lodge, you will return to Kigali to your hotel or to Kigali airport for your flight.
